Upland, CA– The Celebration is quickly approaching. Family, friends and the community are personally invited to join in the celebration with the congregation of Victory Community Church (VCC) on Sunday, August 25, 2019, as they celebrate their 28th Church Anniversary. This will be a full day of a true Homecoming Celebration at 2009 Porterfield Way Suite F, Upland, CA 91786.
The Morning Worship Service Speaker at 9:30 a.m. will be Victory’s own Senior Pastor Tommy Morrow and the 3:30 p.m. Afternoon Celebration Speaker will be Pastor Ivory Brown of Brown Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ.
The theme is “The Church Must Tell the World Who Jesus Is,” Matthew 16:13-16. All members and friends anticipate having a wonderful time of worship and fellowship, looking back at their history and looking forward to the promise of the future.
The afternoon speaker of the hour will be Pastor Ivory Brown. Pastor I.R.F. Brown serves as pastor of Brown Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ, located in the city of Pomona, California. He had previously served as co-pastor from 1997 until 2003. Brown Memorial Temple is celebrating fifty (50) years of continuous service in the City of Pomona.
Pastor Brown is happily married to Cynthia Brown and they have six daughters, two sons, twenty-four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren
Pastor Ivory Brown and Lady Cynthia Brown, founders of the Pomona Valley Faith Advisory Council (PVFAC). The PVFAC, 501©3 non for profit organization is comprised of a collective group of faith based leaders and community advocates creating a culture of collective impact through motivating, mentoring, and mobilizing the capacity of religious, community, and government stakeholders in the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys including the Inland Empire region of Southern California. PVFAC leverages its extensive network and resource mapping repository to create lasting partnerships. Because the faith-based community has always been the first to respond to the community needs, PVFAC aims to strengthen the first responders by providing these groups with expertise and infrastructure to be self-sustaining.
Victory Community Church was founded and organized by Pastor Tommy Morrow on August 21, 1991. The first public worship took place on August 25th, 1991 at a temporary location, 875 West Orange Grove Avenue, Pomona, California, at Pomona Fellowship Church of the Brethren.
The mission of Victory has been and continues to be the great commission found in Matthew 28:18-20! Exalt the Savior, Equip and Empower the Saints, and to Evangelize to those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Victory’s motto is, “People Discovering Purpose and Developing Faith.” “
The journey has been a walk of faith from the beginning,” states Raella Ballinger, the Church Administrator. The miracles are too numerous to mention. Victory Community Church in a multi-ethnic, Bible believing community church body. “Victory Community Church has provided 28 years of community service, not only spiritually, but they have also participated in many areas within the community,” Acquanetta Warren, Fontana Mayor, said.
Victory maintained a spiritual presence and locations in Central Pomona from 1991 to 1997. It was there that God used the ministry to make an impact on the lives of that community. Victory supported African American educators of the Pomona Unified School District who made charges of racism against the District and led the community in its first city-wide Call to Prayer to invoke God’s presence during this critical time. This bold call led to many more cross-cultural exchanges and meetings with city officials that initiated conversations and more cooperative multicultural exchanges.
In 1997, Victory moved to its own facility at 2253 North Garey Avenue in North Pomona. Believing God had a plan for Victory in Upland, the leadership led the congregation to move into a former bank building at 308 North Second Avenue, and in 2009 Victory moved to The Grove Theatre on 276 East 9th Street in downtown Upland, and in 2012 Victory moved to its current home 2009 Porterfield Way, Suites C, D, E, & F in Upland.
Over the years, God has blessed Victory with committed core leadership and faithful members who understand the vision that God has given to the pastoral leadership of the church. With the help of the leadership team, this anniversary shall be one you will not want to miss.
The anniversary and homecoming services will begin at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Tommy Morrow. Tommy Morrow is the Founder and Senior Pastor of the Victory Community Church of Upland, where he has served since 1991. Through his ministry many people have been won to faith in Jesus Christ, and many lives have been transformed. Pastor Morrow’s unique preaching and teaching gift and style has afforded him numerous opportunities to minister all over the United States of America and as far away as Cape Town, South Africa.
The ministry of Victory Community Church of Upland is a multi-ethnic and intergenerational congregation. Pastor Morrow’s belief is that God will use anyone who is willing to advance His Work in the earth. He has developed and led a number of nontraditional ministry outreach opportunities to men and women who have lost their way. The one that is closest to his heart is the Man2Man Ministry for young men between the ages of 20-40 who need support in developing skills that lead to employment and family reunification and education. Many of the young men are lost in our society with no direction and have limited skills and abilities. This ministry program offers a 10-Week course of study and upon completion, a promotional exercise with certificate recognition. Some of the graduates have made remarkable changes in their lives and are on the road to great success.
In addition to Pastor Tommy’s pulpit ministry, he is a man of great vision. Pastor Morrow entrepreneurial success is demonstrated in a variety of ways. He is the Founder and Publisher of the Inland Valley Newspaper Group, a weekly newspaper dedicated to the positive aspects of African American life and culture, now in its 28th year of publication; the annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Gala, now in its 22th year; the Boys 2 Businessmen Nonprofit Organization and the Morrow Pancreatic Health Foundation and Shining Glory Publications, a book publishing company.
Through his business acumen, he has provided employment opportunities for a number of individuals, thereby, enriching the lives of families and providing economic development in the local community.
Pastor Tommy Morrow holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, and a Master of Arts degree from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. His theological training was done at the Birmingham Baptist Bible College. He has spent a career in education, business and ministry. Pastor Morrow is respected and recognized as a leader, mentor and advocate in the Inland Valley of Southern California. He has received numerous awards and recognition for his work in and out of the local community. His motto is simple, “start where you are, use what you have, and follow through until you get the results you are seeking.”
He is married to Kimberly Anthony-Morrow and has three adult daughters, Ta Mia and Ta Lese Morrow, Deann Morrow Graham, one Son-in Love Renix Graham, and two grandchildren DaKari Veals and Reigne Holloway.
