Inland Valley Uplift Foundation and Zeta Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Hold Their 10th Annual Youth Leadership Conference

La Verne, CA– Inland Valley Uplift Foundation with the assistance of the Brothers of the Zeta Tau Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will hold the 10th consecutive Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) on March 16, 2019. This conference targets youth in the 5th through 12th grades and their parents.

 

For the last few years, the conference has been held on the campus of the University of La Verne. This year’s conference theme is “Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders”.

 

Students attending the conference will be able to network in workshops dealing with such topics as science, technology, engineering, arts, agriculture, aerospace, aviation and mathematics.  (STEAM). They will hear from representatives who will speak with them about preparing for life after high school. They will also interact with STEAM professionals that are currently working in these career fields. There will also be a STEAM VAN on site.

 

Michal Haynes, Air Quality Inspector, South Coast Air Quality Management District, will conduct this session. Students in the 9th through the 12th grades will be provided with information about current scholarship and job opportunities for these demanding college majors and career fields. These science oriented fields will include: Transportation Management, Bio/Environmental Engineering, Genetic Modification Foods (GM), Cellular/Computer Technology/GPS, UAS (Drone system operations) and Hazardous Waste and Materials Management.

 

 Gifts will be given on a limited quantity for select students and adults in attendance.

 

A session on College and Communication for 5th through 8th graders will be conducted by Paul Turner. Topics of discussion are as follows: Live Above the Hype, How to Prepare for Success and STEAM Careers

 

Other aspects of the program will be directed to attending Mothers and Fathers.

 

The Mother’s program coordinated by Ronnie Walker and will consist of information modules on the following topics: Trifling Parents; College Preparation, What parents need to know, and How Can Parents Assist their High School Students.

The Father’s program is coordinated by Dr. George Taylor and is divided into 4 modules:  Values and Communication, How Parents Can Assist their High School Students, Parental Rights and Custody, and The Police and Your Child.
