Joe Jackson Buried in Same LA-Area Cemetery as Son Michael

Los Angeles, CA (AP) — Joseph Jackson, the strong, fearsome patriarch of the musical Jackson family, has died at the age of 89.

Jackson family patriarch Joseph Jackson has been buried in the same Southern California cemetery as his late son Michael.

Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg told The Associated Press that Joe Jackson died at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday at a Las Vegas hospice. Jackson is survived by wife Katherine, eight children and dozens of grandchildren.

A source close to the family who is not authorized to speak publicly said Joe Jackson was laid to rest Monday in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

Eldest son Jackie Jackson posted a photo of himself on Instagram Monday afternoon in a black suit and sunglasses while dressing one of his young twin sons in a similar suit.

The stage dad of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and their talented siblings took his family from poverty in Gary, Indiana, and launched a musical dynasty. Five of his boys – Michael, Jermaine, Marlon, Tito and Jackie – made the clan an instant sensation with the arrival of the Jackson 5 in 1969.

Over the following decades, millions would listen to recordings by the Jacksons, and Michael would become one of the most popular entertainers in history before his death in 2009.

Michael Jackson was entombed in 2009 in the mausoleum at the opulent cemetery that is also the final resting place of Elizabeth Taylor and Walt Disney.
