Marvel’s Moon Girl Headlines New Animated Series

The forthcoming series will follow 9-year-old Black superhero Lunella Lafayette, who uses her tremendous intelligence to save humanity.

While Shuri dominates the big screen in “Black Panther,” Marvel announced yesterday (February 20) that another of its genius Black girl superheroes will soon be the protagonist in her own animated television series.

A statement posted on Marvel.com reveals that “Black-ish” producers Helen Sugland and Laurence Fishburne are creating an animated series based on the “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” comic books. Marvel put the project, which shares its name with the comic series, into development with Disney Worldwide Channels.

“Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” follows the adventures of Lunella “Moon Girl” Lafayette, a brilliant Black 9-year-old who develops a telekinetic link with a red dinosaur from another dimension. The pair draw on Moon Girl’s intellect and mechanical engineering talent to fight various forms of evil. Marvel introduced the superhero in 2015, eventually incorporating other Marvel characters like Iron Man successor RiRi Williams into Moon Girl plotlines.
