Copy of Michelle Obama Announces New Memoir Title, Release Date

“Becoming” will follow the former first lady of the United States’ journey from her childhood in South Side Chicago to the present.

Attorney, philanthropist and former first lady of the United States Michelle Obama revealed the title of her upcoming memoir via Twitter yesterday (February 25): Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience. I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story. http://bit.ly/becomingmichelleobama …

An announcement from Penguin Random House’s Crown Publishing Group notes that “Becoming” will arrive on November 13, 2018. The book will cover most of Obama’s life, starting with her upbringing in the predominantly Black South Side of Chicago and continuing through her career in the legal sector and eight years in the White House.

“In this book, I talk about my roots and how a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others,” Obama says in the statement. “I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.”

Advance sales already made “Becoming” the fourth best-selling book today (February 26) on Amazon.com as of press time. (By Sameer Rao, Colorlines0
