Upland City Council Swears in Newly Elected Officials, All Of Which Ran Unopposed

During a special meeting on Dec. 9, the Upland City Council officially certified the results of the Nov. 5, 2024, General Municipal Election and welcomed its newly elected officials.

Mayor Bill Velto, Council Member Shannan Maust and City Treasurer Greg R. Bradley, all of whom ran unopposed, were sworn in for new terms.

“This may be the first time three members ran unopposed simultaneously,” Mayor Velto remarked during the meeting. “It says a lot about our team and the trust of the community.”

Council Member Maust reflected on her journey and the significance of serving her city.

“Four years ago, I took my oath in the midst of a pandemic, unsure of what lay ahead. Today, I stand here with gratitude, ready to serve for another term,” she said.

Maust thanked her family, residents and city staff for their support, emphasizing her goal to ensure “consistent leadership with a stable, professional, and transparent approach.”

Treasurer Bradley expressed deep appreciation for the trust placed in him by nearly 25,000 voters, despite running unopposed.

“Our city employees are the lifeblood of Upland,” he said, thanking city staff for their dedication and calling for unity among the council and community to tackle infrastructure and safety needs.

“We have much to accomplish over the next two years, and we must come together to make Upland a better place to call home,” he said.

The council also certified the election results, including Measure N, a proposed 1% sales tax for city services, which did not pass.

The meeting, held at City Hall, marked a significant moment of continuity and optimism for Upland’s leadership.

“While we may not all agree on certain subjects, our common goal remains a healthy, thriving Upland,” Maust said.

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for December 11, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming discussions to shape the city’s future.
