San Bernardino County Supervisors Recognize Longtime Employee, Discuss Homelessness Efforts at March 10 Meeting

San Bernardino, CA — The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors opened its March 10 meeting by honoring a longtime county employee and later discussed regional collaboration to address homelessness and other county initiatives.

The regular meeting brought together supervisors Dawn Rowe, Joe Baca Jr., Paul Cook, Jesse Armendarez and Curt Hagman to consider items listed on the county’s agenda, which included recognitions, reports and infrastructure discussions affecting communities across the county.

Early in the meeting, the board presented a resolution recognizing longtime county employee Cecil Lamar Allman for more than three decades of public service.

According to remarks read during the meeting, Allman “began his career with the Public Works Department as a maintenance and construction worker” and remained with the department throughout his career, eventually rising to the position of Public Works Operations Superintendent.

During the recognition, board members noted his 31 years of service and thanked him for his contributions to county operations.

Allman addressed the board and attendees briefly following the presentation.

“There’s a lot of people I need to thank for this,” Allman said. “So, it’s been a wonderful 30 years plus. I just want to thank everyone for the opportunity.”

Reflecting on his time with the county, he added that the experience had been meaningful.

“It’s been a good career,” Allman said. “So, there’s a lot of support. It’s been a good opportunity to work for such a wonderful place.”

The recognition was one of several ceremonial resolutions presented during the meeting honoring county employees and community members.

Following the presentations, supervisors turned to updates and reports concerning county programs and regional initiatives.

During board comments, supervisors discussed progress on a planned regional navigation center intended to address homelessness in the county’s West End communities.

The project, discussed in relation to county infrastructure planning, is intended to provide coordinated services andhousing assistance for people experiencing homelessness while improving collaboration between local jurisdictions.

Supervisors also briefly referenced transportation initiatives and funding programs connected to regional transit planning.

According to comments during the meeting, several new projects were recently awarded funding through Measure I, the county’s transportation sales tax.

County meetings such as the March 10 session serve as the primary venue for supervisors to consider policy actions, approve contracts and recognize community contributions across the county’s districts.

The board also sits as the governing body for several county-related entities, including special districts and regionalagencies responsible for services ranging from flood control to emergency medical coordination.

According to the meeting agenda, the consolidated agenda format allows the board to address business affecting multiple governing bodies during the same public meeting.

In addition to formal agenda items, supervisors typically use the meeting to provide updates on regional initiatives, transportation projects and partnerships with local cities.

The next board meeting, scheduled for March 24, is expected to continue discussions on county initiatives and future projects impacting communities throughout San Bernardino County.
