Moreno Valley, CA — The Moreno Valley Board Of Education has a new board member. Ruth Self-Williams was recently appointed to replace Darrell Peeden, who resigned from the board in October when he moved out of Area 5.
Self-Williams was sworn in at the April school board meeting. She is a retired educator who spent about 40 years in the field in several positions, according to a press release from the school district. She is a longtime Moreno Valley resident and is the mother of two children and has three grandchildren.
“I want to thank everyone for this wonderful opportunity,” said Self-Williams. “When we went into distance learning on March 13, 2022, I made a decision that I wanted to be in a place where I could help develop policy…. I am here to make a difference…. We are putting your children first.”
According to the press release, Self-Williams has stayed active in education during her retirement. She has coached administrators through the Riverside Office of Education and overseen teachers and interns through the University of Massachusetts Global.
Self-Williams was welcomed to the school board by President Cleveland Johnson.
“We are so happy you are part of our team,” said Johnson. “Thank you for deciding to serve on the Moreno Valley Unified School District Board of Education.”
Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora said he was excited to have an education veteran on the school board.
“She is focused on ensuring our students have a positive experience at our schools. We look forward to continuing to Shine Brighter with Excellence on Purpose!” said Kedziora.
