Several new sources are reporting former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury.
He becomes the first president to be indicted. During his turbulent presidential administration, Trump broke another record by becoming the first president to be twice indicted. He was acquitted twice.
According to news reports, Trump will face arraignment on Tuesday. During the process, he will be booked and have his mug shot taken. He will likely be freed after he is briefly arrested.
Trump is facing charges from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. These charges are expected to involve illegal business practices. This concerns his former attorney’s payoff to adult actress Stormy Daniels.
Former Trump fixer Michael Cohen paid Daniels about $140,000 to buy her silence. In 2016, Daniels was going to come forward with a story about an affair with Trump. (Cohen has already served prison time for this criminal act. )
Trump then reimbursed Cohen for the payment and put it under “business expenses.” This action broke several laws. Apart from breaking the law for false business practices, it also broke campaign finance law, since the payment to Daniels could be considered a donation.
Trump has spent the last week claiming that he will be arrested. He also used the news to rile up his fans and raise more than $1 million in donations. Last week, he posted a picture on his social media site of him holding a bat next to Bragg’s picture. Trump also called Bragg a “(George) Soros-backed animal.” He has also asked his followers to protest against the indictment.
News reports state the New York Police Department has mobilized in event of trouble. CNN said that every police officer is expected to show up in uniform on Friday.
Trump also faces indictment from Fulton County, Ga District Attorney Fani Willis for election tampering and Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is investigating the former president for hoarding secret documents.
