Deadline Extended for the IVN Scholars Scholarship Applications for 19th Annual COE

Upland, CA— Through generous funding and support the Inland Valley News, Inc. in collaboration with its affiliated public benefit 501(c)(3) corporation, Shining Glory Publications, is proud to announce that the 2016 IVN Scholars Program Scholarship Application is now open!
The IVN Scholars Program was designed to provide Shining Glory Scholarship recipients with more than just money for college. “The goal was and still is to extend our reach as we work to prepare the next generation of global leaders who will work to make the world better. Students within the program are paired with highly trained mentors who support them throughout their entire undergraduate career. Additionally, participants receive ongoing comprehensive leadership development training, service learning opportunities and internships within their respective areas of interest. The intent is to use these different facets as a means to fostering the 21st century competencies and leadership capacities necessary for them to become powerful, thoughtful and engaged world changers. We at the IVN Scholars Program are excited to induct our second class of future world changers who will join our program this Fall” said, Ta Mia Morrow, Executive Director.
Scholarships are available to senior high school students, fulltime college freshmen and sophomores pursuing careers in journalism, communication, graphic and web design, creative writing, marketing, advertising or any of the STEM related fields. This year five scholarships in amounts of up to $5,000 will be awarded.
Program Guidelines & Priorities:
Scholarships are open to students pursuing careers in journalism, communication, graphic and web design, creative writing, marketing, advertising or any of the STEM related fields.
Seeking graduating seniors, college freshman and sophomores with a record of volunteerism in the community, in school and non-school sponsored activities. Extracurricular school activities will also be considered.
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, a total family annual income under $65,000, and who plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or technical school.
Scholarship monies will only be disbursed upon verification of enrollment in a 2 or 4 year college or technical school.
Scholarships are awarded through a competitive application and committee review process. Scholarship recipients are required to provide the following:
Written personal statement of 500 -700 words (see application for specifics)
Minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, school administrator or employer

Completed applications are due no later than 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Recipients will be notified via phone and must be able to attend the 19th Annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Gala and Scholarship Dinner on Friday, April 29, 2016, held at The Doubletree by Hilton, Ontario to receive their award.
