Nationwide — Alan D. Benson, author and entrepreneur, is excited about the release of his book, Stand Up! A Message to the Black Man! This book offers a message of hope and a call to action for more Black men to:
-Strengthen their relationships with their children, wives, or significant others.
-Create economic independence through investing and adding other streams of income.
-Gain political influence by voting and becoming more involved in the process of putting people into office who represent their ideas, holding politicians more accountable, or even running for office.
It covers subject matter on issues Black men face while offering solutions to overcoming some of life’s challenges. It also highlights the stories of men and how they navigated through life to be leaders in their families, communities, and professions.
“This book is unique because it gives Black men a roadmap with solutions for correcting and redirecting their lives. I aim to change the negative stereotypes and societal weight on many Black men’s backs by giving us words of hope and, more importantly, solutions for more Black men to be uplifted up in life and to define their purpose,” says Alan.
Benson also notes Black men have a great history and legacy in America and throughout the globe. “We have a rich history of military leaders, businessmen, politicians, and fathers. The problem is, as I see it, our story as Black men are often placed on the back burner, misrepresented, or not told at all. Unfortunately, what is accented are the negative acts of some Black men. That must change because what we see and hear constantly, we believe; and that becomes the norm,” says Alan.

Alan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Louisville. He also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Indiana University Southeast. He served in the United States Marine Corps and is a Persian Gulf War veteran. He is married to Dr. Debbie Benson and has two children, Hilton and Hayley Benson.
