Evangelist Bettye Turner January is the first child of 7 children of Willie and Margaret Osborne, and grew up in a minister’s home as her Dad was a preacher and her maternal grandmother was a Missionary.  Under such spiritual influence Bettye accepted Christ Jesus as her Lord and personal Savior at the age of 8 years old and was baptized the same year.

Although born in Chicago, Illinois her parents left the Midwest to settle down and establish residency in Los Angeles and eventually moving to Compton, California.  Evangelist Turner January’s primary education was obtained through the Los Angeles Unified School District. After graduating from Alain Leroy Locke High School in Los Angeles California 1969, she earned an AAS degree from El Camino Jr. College in Criminal Justice in 1974.  She always had a heart for people and moved to Chicago, Illinois and continued her education receiving a Dual Bachelors degree in Sociology and Human Services respectively from National Louis University.

Her work in the church and in the secular world included working “grass roots” in the projects of Chicago, to the “ Skid Row” streets of Los Angeles.  She worked in the choir as Choir secretary, she has taught Sunday School classes and was the church financial officer, she taught classes for YPWW, Purity classes, she was the secretary for the Missionary board, she worked as coordinator for Dorcas’ Closet at her church, she was Prayer Leader for the Altar Team, member on the Community Relations Board for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Board of Directors member for Rescue Team Ministry, and she presently serves as secretary of the Home Owners Association for which she resides. She served as Director of Homeless Shelter; she has worked in the Prison Ministry, and sat on the board of directors for Rescue Team Ministry.  She directed a Dual Diagnosis program, and a State Half-Way program in Chicago, Illinois; most recently prior to her retirement in May 2013 she was Director of a Federal Residential Re-Entry Facility for over 10 years.

Evangelist Turner January’s love for the gospel of Jesus Christ is her testimony!!!!!!  Working with and committed to working with individuals who are underprivileged, un-churched, men and women who have been sexually abused and battered, have mental health challenges, those on drugs alcohol, and those who are incarcerated physically and in their minds, are her targeted population.  She is not afraid to spread the “good news” to anyone she comes in contact with.

Evangelist Turner January aspires to open facilities for people, who are hurting mentally and spiritually, because she feels there are far too many people in churches who need spiritually based mental health treatment.  She thanks God for her family not limited to her daughter Kellye, son Robert, and sister Lillian who constantly remind her that she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her, and grateful to have 4 brothers, grandchildren Markelle, Ariya, Breanne, Joshua and one great-granddaughter Mailei, and other family members who also believe in her ministry and support her vision. Evangelist Turner January graduated November 5, 2015 with a Masters Degree in Psychology from Argosy University and that evening married her life-long friend, companion, and love, Pastor David Emmanuel January, a man of God who totally supports her vision and ministry.

Evangelist Turner January’s favorite scripture comes from Romans 8:35 who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? (NKJ) She is Holy Ghost filled and has always told her children from an early age that “this (earth) is not my home, I’m living here to live again I’m going to a building not made by hands, Heaven is my home”

The Women’s Celebration Series has taken place each Sunday in March with a different and unique speaker bringing forth the Word each week. You don’t want to miss a single speaker.
