Upland, CA – Victory Community Church, Upland California is now pleased to offer a path for community members and lay ministers to receive Chaplaincy Training. Presented in collaboration with Pomona Police Department Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Member and Chaplain, Jackie Dennis, this weekly, (approximately 20-hour) training will be held on every Saturday, beginning, May 5, 2018 and will conclude with a graduation on Sunday, June 10th at 6:00pm.
“We are so looking forward to partnering with Chaplain Dennis to release more of what is needed in this world – compassionate and competent caregivers,” said Senior Pastor Tommy Morrow, Victory Community Church. “We understand that caregiving is more than just knowledge and skills, but at its core, is a ministry that many have been called to but have not been equipped for.”
Chaplain Jackie Dennis resides in the city of Claremont with her husband and soul mate of almost 25 years. Her husband Jeffry Dennis is a scientist and part time professor teaching advanced water science at a local community college. Jackie and her husband have three amazing, beautiful, and talented adult daughters, one very spoiled puppy; that believes that sleeping in his own bed is not an option.
Jackie graduated from the International School of Ministry in 2013. The degree in Biblical Studies has afforded her opportunities to volunteer as chaplain. Jackie completed her Clinical Pastoral Education at Pomona Valley Hospital in February 2014.
She is currently a CERT member of the Claremont Police Department and is excited over the opportunity to serve in the trenches at any level with our law enforcement officers wherever she is needed most.
The spirit of volunteerism was birthed in Jackie at age 14 when she picked up her guitar and began a solo career singing and playing guitar in her community. The joy Jackie received in making a difference in the lives of the sick, elderly, and shut in forever stirred Jackie’s heart for service to humanity.
In 2002 Jackie founded the company Angelwingz. She traveled to and fro helping seniors at no cost to them.
When asked why she was doing what she was doing her response was why not.
In 2004 through 2007 Jackie volunteered at different organizations feeding the hungry and raising money for different and meaningful causes.
In 2008 Jackie partnered with Olive Crest to raise money for a resource center. Today this resource center serves the city of Bell Flowers children and young adults that are aged out of the system and left to fend for them without assistance.
In 2009 Jackie began volunteering at Pomona Valley Hospital. She has delighted herself in the area of service and chaplaincy at the hospital. She continues her volunteer service at the hospital and considers the time spent a privilege.
In 2012 Jackie was certified by the state of California as a sexual assault crisis intervention counselor. Her goal was to reduce the stress and trauma for victims and their families and to assist law enforcement, district attorney, and forensic staff during the process.
In 2012 Jackie had the honor of facilitating two-hour classes each week to the women of Crossroads; a transitional home for female lifers coming out of the prison system. Jackie’s memory book of her experiences
